Welcome to my webpage! I hope you find it useful and easy to use. My goal is to continually update this page to help parents stay updated with what we are learning in math, as well as offering ideas and strategies they can use to help their student at home. I also want this to be a friendly place where students can find new, fun ways to practice concepts.
Now for a little background information about me. I grew up in Standish and Limington, and attended George E. Jack, Steep Falls (Edna Libby had just been built), BE Jr. High, and BEHS. I attended the University of Maine at Farmington and the University of Southern Maine, where I received a degree in Psychology. Since then I have pursued a teaching degree, and have completed all necessary coursework. I bought a house a few years ago in Steep Falls, and am now enjoying the benefits and workload of home - ownership.
I have been teaching for more than fifteen years, this being my twelfth year at MSAD #6 as a Title I Associate.
What is Title I?
Title I, Part A, under No Child Left Behind (NCLB), is a federal program which supports state and local school reform efforts tied to challenging state academic standards in order to reinforce and amplify efforts to improve teaching and learning for students furthest from meeting state standards.
The Title I Math Program in M.S.A.D. #6 serves children in grades 2-5. Students who are furthest away from achieving Maine's Learning Results, as measured by the Northwest Educational Assessment (NWEA), are considered for the program along with teacher input and teacher recommendation.
Title I Math Associates in M.S.A.D. #6 (Highly Qualified Educational Technician IIIs) work under the direction of the classroom teacher to provide supplemental assistance to identified Title IA math students in the classroom setting, or in a tutorial setting. Supplemental assistance is based on the needs of each child and is designed to strengthen the math skills outlined in the regular M.S.A.D. #6 curriculum which are presented by the classroom teacher.
In 2009-2010, we are looking forward to supporting students as they learn mathematics with a new core math program, Everyday Mathematics!
