MSAD#6 District Results
1999-2002

In the early grades, the district's goal in reading is to have all studetns reading on grade level by the end of grade two.  Progress towards this goal is measured against benchmarks on the Fry's Instant Word List and the Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA).

The Fry's list is a list of 1,000 words which students need the most to develop a powerful sight vocabulary.  Students are formally assessed with the Fry's List three times during each year.  Students should know at least 25 words at the end of Kindergarten, 150 by the end of first grade, and 450 by  the end of second grade.

The DRA, published by Celebration Press, measures a child's accuracy, fluency and comprehension skills.  Students are assessed at the end of Kindergarten and three times in grade one and grade two.  In MSAD#6, students are expected to reach level two by the end of Kindergarten, level sixteen by the end of grade one, and level twenty-eight by the end of grade two.
