Making a Car with the High School Thursday the high school came over to Jack Memorial to visit Mrs. Guimond's class. When they came over they introduced their names. Then they talked about the car, then we got to work. The high school made the pieces themselves. We built the car and designed them ourselves. We each had a buddy. They also came Friday and then we raced our cars. Then on Monday we made some graphs to see who went the fastest, time and the speed with 1 red elastic and with pennies. We had a BLAST! by Caleb

In Mrs.Giumond's class we made rubber band cars.We saw how far they went, and how fast they went with different rubber bands. We had to be very careful with the axles that conected the wheels to each other. Some of us kept breaking them and needed some new ones. When we went into the building we ran our racers with ten pennies and one red rubber bands. We had great fun with the cars. We all had a lot of fun making our rubber band racing cars. The high schoolers made all the pieces and told us how to put the pieces together. It looked really hard at first but it wasn't that hard after all. I don't mean that I could have done it all by myself or any thing. I definitely don't think that I could have designed it (although some people think I could have.). We even got to color them! When we were all done making and coloring them we raced them to see how many miles per hour they went, and how it affected how far they went if we changed the size of the rubber band or put weight in it. Which it did. We made a spread sheet out of all the information. We also have lots of pictures of what we did. We ALL had tons of fun doing it.

Last Thursday we made racecars with High School kids. We made them from wood. After we built them we numbered and decorated the cars. The High School kids came back on Friday. We went into the hallways of the school to race them. Everyone had so much fun. We even got to keep the cars. The High School kids are making their own.

Physical Science Lessons, too

While the glue dried, the high school students presented lessons on physical science. This was a fun introduction to the next chapter in the third grade science book.
