Frank H. Jewett was born in Dexter, Maine on January 30, 1890. He graduated from Bates College in Maine in 1915. In addition to being a dairy and poultry farmer for many years, he served as the Principal of Buxton High School from 1928 to 1949.

Mr. Jewett advocated the development and education of the "Total Person" (mind, body and soul). While serving as principal, he developed one of the state's earliest school nutrition programs and instituted intramural athletics for all students.

Frank Jewett Elementary School opened in 1957. One addition was built in the 1986/87 school year.
