Hollis PTC

The PTC is the grouping of parents, teachers, support staff, and other interested parties who have joined together to support the mission of Hollis Elementary School. The PTC lends its time, energy, and talents in an effort to create lifelong learners and improve the overall quality of our local educational program.

Acting as a resource to parents, faculty and students it is our purpose to promote and increase family involvement in the educational system, while simultaneously fostering a sense of accomplishment through the showcasing of educational efforts by both the children and teachers.

The membership of the PTC is comprised solely of volunteers from the local community and teachers/staff from the school system who are interested in helping our community in reaching its educational goals. This is without regard to age, race, color, creed, or national origin

Parent and community involvement are key ingredients for the success of our school. Volunteering provides an opportunity for parents, grandparents, and town citizens to learn about and interact with our schools. The PTC provides many opportunities for volunteers to work directly with children or provide extra assistance for our school staff. Volunteers can also work at home, chaperone field trips, or other special events; the only qualification is a "desire" to help out.

Meetings are held the 1st Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm in the Hollis School Cafeteria. Although they are not mandatory to become involved it is highly encouraged to attend. Free childcare is provided.

Together we can raise public awareness, boost family involvement, and increase community pride throughout our school.

Hollis PTC Activities

Hearing and Vision Screening
September 17-21. The school nurse needs help with eye and ear testing. She is looking for 4 people a day from 9:00 - 2:30. Sign up for an hour or the whole session. No special qualifications needed.

Book Fair
This is a book sale where the students, faculty and parents get a chance to purchase Scholastic books at great prices. Help is needed to assist children with book selection and payment. Book fairs are generally held 2 or 3 times throughout the year and are usually run from 11 am until 1 pm

Harvest Dance
Each year the PTC plans a Fall family dance during the month of October at the school. Hollis students and their families get to dress up, hear music and play games. Volunteers are needed to help with decorating, bake snacks, and sell tickets and goodies.

Children's Holiday Shopping
For one week during the month of December the PTC turns a classroom into a mini shopping center. The students get to purchase inexpensive gifts for family members with money they have brought from home. This event requires lots of volunteers to assist students with their shopping. We also need donations of wrapping paper, tags and scotch tape.

Staff Appreciation
Each May there is a national Teacher Appreciation day. However, we at Hollis like to show appreciation to all of our staff so the PTC plans an entire week of special events. We need help with fresh ideas to show the staff how much we value them. There are many ways that you can help with this event including being a member of its committee.

Fun Day
For the past several years the PTC has sponsored a full day of fun for the kids. Each year a theme is chosen and the day's events are planed around it. Again, we need lots of volunteers to help with this one starting with committee members and ending with those who can be available the big day. This is a winter event.

Father/Daughter Dance
Each year the PTC plans a most special evening just for dads and their little girls. Help is needed with decorating, refreshments, tickets sales, etc. This is generally a spring event.

Mother/Son Bowling
Another special evening sponsored by the PTC. This time for mothers and their sons. We've been bowling for the past few years but if you have any other ideas we'd love to hear them. Help is needed to sell refreshments and be door monitors. Another sprint event.

Weekly Library Volunteers
Each class comes into the library once a week for a short lesson and to take out books. The school library needs people who can commit to coming in the same time every week for about 35 minutes. These volunteers assist the students with finding books, checking them in and out and help the librarian keep the books on the shelves where they belong. If you like to read to children you may also do so on occasion. Volunteers need no special qualifications for this job. Just willingness to help and a love of children is all that is required. We cannot make any promises but the earlier you sign up, the better chance you have of getting your own child's library time. The Library Coordinator will contact you to arrange scheduling.
