Limington Students help Land Trust
| HBEmery School

At H.B. Emery Jr. Memorial School, fourth grade students In Terry Shortsleeve and Carolyn Greenleaf’s classes raised $112 to donate to a local land trust: The Francis Small Heritage Trust. The classes learned about the trust from Mr. Richard Jarrett last fall after hiking Sawyers Mountain in Limington. Much of Sawyers Mt. and lands around it are protected by the trust. Students donated the money which they had earned in a variety of ways: mowing the lawn, washing windows, organizing rooms, dog walking, changing cat litter, doing dishes, raking leaves, moving wood, cutting wood, cutting hair, and babysitting.

Richard Jarrett is explaining to students about the turtle symbol which is used on all documents from Francis Small Heritage Trust. It was the ancestral totem and "signature" of Captain Sandy, Chief of the Newichewannock tribe, who saved the life of Francis Small and later gave him a large tract of land which included the town of Limington.
