Standish Students Participate in Day of Service President Obama had asked Americans to participate in a National Day of  Service on Martin Luther King Day, January 19th, the eve of the inauguration.  In honor of the President’s efforts, Edna Libby Elementary School decided to participate by holding a collection for the local food pantry.  The food pantry shelves had been greatly depleted over the holidays, and items that were low in supply and high in demand were suggested for donations.  Shopping carts for each grade were placed in the cafeteria and a large graph was made as a visual to show progress. Students and staff were eager to participate and all four shopping carts were full with nonperishable items and paper goods.  A total of 492 items were donated to the Standish Food Pantry. The donated items were delivered the end of January.
