Hard hat! Renovations in the High School Cafeteria

New! Update - August 9, 2006:

Additions and Renovations:
The new entry addition structural steel and foundations have been completed and the exterior shell, including the insulation, brick and metal siding is nearing completion. The walls inside the new lobby and office area have been framed and gypsum drywall is being hung. Electrical and mechanical installation is under way. Demolition in the existing main office has been completed, and structure has been added to the roof to make sure it meets the current roof loading codes. New millwork is being constructed and installed. The canopies at the entrance are under construction and should be complete soon. Emergency, safety, security, communication and computer systems will be tested by the beginning of the school year.

The bus loop construction will include new exterior lighting, and the new drop off will be complete for use in the fall. Transportation patterns for bus and parent drop off traffic will continue as it was in the spring of 2006, until further notice. A letter will be mailed to students, staff and parents to discuss student drop off and bus traffic patterns.

Automatic Fire Protection System:
The water treatment building, which was replaced by a new building and system adjacent to the old building, has been pumped out, cleaned and sealed in preparation for use as the water storage tank for the sprinkler system. The wood walls, roof structure and equipment have been removed. A new structural slab over the water storage tank has been constructed. New concrete masonry walls and a new roof system are under construction and sprinkler equipment is being installed. A pipe extends under Saco Road to connect to the high school to provide water for the sprinkler system. An unused water storage tank adjacent to the building will be used for additional fire protection water supply. A fire department stand pipe will be connected to both tanks for use in case of fire at the high school, the middle school or homes nearby.

Installation of the sprinkler system in the special education wing and in the main corridor connecting the new addition to the special education wing has been completed and tested. Installation of the sprinkler system in the cafeteria and gymnasium is complete, and the new addition and renovation will be complete before occupancy by students and staff. Work within the remainder of the existing building will continue in two more phases over the next two years.

Cafeteria Improvements:
Skylights, mechanical ductwork to provide ventilation and heat, and acoustical wall treatment have been installed. Food service equipment has been bid, and lighting will be installed.
